Solace 2009

I can see humility
Delicate and white
It is satisfying
Just by itself’ Agnes Martin 1973

Solace brings a sense of calm, a restoring force brings a pendulum back to back to it’s equilibrium. So it is in ‘Pendulus Momentum’ where large heavy balls hang by a thread, centred by their own weight. In ‘Quiet Bells’ mute droplets droop in clusters in the centre of the space, like an ungainly chandelier. Starkly lit their dark silhouettes play on the wall behind, the echo of the soundless bells. The marble dust drawings appear like imprints, buckling the wax paper beneath, tracing shadows these works map our passage in all its gravity and grace.
